Abstract
Using the design system components from Milestone 2 means every core admin view gets a consistent, tested, and accessible implementation, rather than incremental patches. The backend is where editors and administrators spend most of their time, and bringing the Atum template fully onto the design system is what makes the day-to-day editing environment usable for people relying on assistive technologies.
Milestone 3b depends on the stable design system delivered in Milestone 2b (tokens, core and complex components), on the prioritised remediation plan produced in Milestone 1b, and on the test protocols and acceptance criteria established in Milestone 1a. It feeds into the integrated validation in Milestone 3c alongside the frontend template delivered in Milestone 3a.
Scope of work
Deliverable 1: Atum Admin Template on the Milestone 2 Design System
Update the admin template (Atum) to use the design system components from Milestone 2 for all core views covered in the remediation plan from Milestone 1b, making the backend editing environment fully accessible for content editors and administrators using assistive technologies. The update must:
- Use the Milestone 2 design tokens and components exclusively, with no parallel, template-specific styling or component duplication
- Cover all core admin views identified in the Milestone 1b remediation backlog
- Conform to WCAG 2.2 AA, including landmarks, focus order, contrast, keyboard navigation, and labelling
- Support RTL layouts, responsive mobile behaviour, and reduced-motion preferences
- Be validated against the test protocols and AT/browser combinations defined in Milestone 1a (minimum matrix: NVDA + Chrome, JAWS + Edge, VoiceOver + Safari), with results recorded against the acceptance criteria
- Be ready for integrated validation in Milestone 3c alongside the frontend template from Milestone 3a
Deliverable 2: Documentation and Milestone Report
Maintain the programme documentation framework and produce the milestone completion report in the format agreed at kick-off. This deliverable also includes template-level documentation of the Atum changes (which views were updated, which components from the design system were applied, and the accessibility rationale for design choices).
