Joomla! Accessibility-project
Joomla has long been committed to making the web accessible to everyone. Now, with the support of the Sovereign Tech Fund, the Joomla project is taking the next major step in that commitment.
The 20-month accessibility programme is a comprehensive effort to further strengthen Joomla as one of the world’s most accessible content management systems. The programme covers a series of defined milestones addressing areas such as accessibility auditing, design and templates, content authoring, administration, automated testing, developer documentation, and independent validation.
A key principle of the programme is transparency. The work is based on an independent assessment of Joomla’s current accessibility, with clearly defined goals, measurable results, and publicly available documentation. The findings and deliverables published on this site provide the foundation for the improvements made throughout the programme.
The project goes beyond addressing individual accessibility issues. It aims to make accessibility a sustainable part of Joomla’s development processes, helping developers, designers, content creators, and users build and maintain more inclusive digital experiences.
This documentation provides an overview of the programme, its milestones, and the results produced along the way. It is intended to make the work accessible and understandable to the Joomla community and to everyone interested in the accessibility of open-source content management systems.
